Best Practices
Follow these operational best practices to maintain inventory accuracy, prevent stock shrinkage, and optimize warehouse space utilization.
1. Continuous Cycle Counting
- Implement ABC Cycle Counting: Perform frequent cycle counts on fast-moving high-value items (Class A) monthly in the Stock Take Applet, while auditing slower items (Class C) quarterly.
- Blind Count Verification: Require warehouse counters to input physical unit counts without revealing expected system quantities on audit sheets.
2. Stock Discrepancy Control
- Restrict who can write stock off: the Stock Adjustment Applet has no approval workflow and no monetary threshold rule, so managerial sign-off has to be a policy backed by permissions — give the finalise right to supervisors only.
- Enforce Real-Time Barcode Scanning: Require barcode scanning during stock putaway, transfers, and picking to eliminate manual SKU input errors.
3. Storage Optimization
- Bin Location Discipline: Ensure every item stored in a warehouse is assigned to an active bin location in the Warehouse Management Applet to streamline picking routes.
