The price book, and which price actually reaches the line · presentation 1 of 5

A price book is the layer that acts last

You can say what a price book actually does to a line, what has to be true before it does anything at all…

The layer that acts last

Step 1 — Put the price book in the right place in the chain

You will stop thinking of a price book as a price list.

What this step names
  1. The pricing scheme already decided what this item costs…
  2. One per scheme
  3. Item and unit of measure
  4. The document opens the line with that number on it

Step 2 — Give the applet exactly one book, or nothing happens

You will have fixed the commonest reason a promotion does nothing.

Step 3 — Stop trying to switch a book off with its Status

You will not lose an afternoon to a control that does nothing.

Step 4 — Leave Calculation Logic alone unless you scan cash bills

You will know why a drop-down with nine options has one reader.

What this step names
  1. The data agrees with the code: across every tenant database
  2. Almost every price book leaves this field unset
  3. The handful of values that are set sit in a very small…

What is actually inside the book

Step 5 — Recognise that a price set holds no price either

You will read a price set correctly.

Step 6 — Take the one sentence away

You will have the sentence for anyone who asks what a price book is.

What this step names
  1. Everything that goes wrong on this surface goes wrong in one of…
  2. The wrong price set won
  3. The treatment acted on a number you did not expect
