What the line remembers, and when it was remembered

You can say, for each figure on a finalised document line, whether the screen sent it, the server derived it…

Three piles

Step 1 — Start from what the screen sent

You will know the default answer.

What this step names

It does not recompute them
It does not check them against the price book
It will not notice if they disagree

Step 2 — Learn the one price the server does work out

You will stop chasing a two-cent difference.

What gets copied in

Step 3 — Learn which master record gets copied onto the line

You will know why a price column changed with nobody editing it.

What you do

Edit one on the document and the next save puts it back

Step 4 — Notice the cost column that is really a price

You will have the single most surprising fact in this series.
